Ellay Khule & Pterradacto absolutely RIP IT live. Definitely a highlight of the DVD. They're followed by Busdriver, who does a sick live version of "Happiness" from his new album. Medusa's commanding voice flows over beats, beatboxes, & a cappella. Haiku's "Triumvirate" sounds even better live. 2mex rips a medley of verses over a hardcore Franz Ferdinand beat and has all the heads bobbin' & moshin'. The finale is a posse medley of sick battle verses - Mikah 9 and PEACE especially will make your jaw drop. You have never heard PEACE rap like this before, man... he just kills it. There's some technical difficulties & the beat stops when Khule starts rhyming & he seamlessly freestyles telling DJ Drez to bring the beat back. The only bad thing about the concert footage is that it should have been longer.

Dave Chappelle's Block Party is a documentary film hosted and written by comedian Dave Chappelle, and directed by Michel Gondry.

The film follows Chappelle during the summer of 2004, up until September 18, 2004, when he threw a block party on the corner of Quincy Street and Downing Street in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. The film features nearby sites including the Broken Angel House in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn as well as areas in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

He invited several alternative hip hop and neo-soul musical artists to perform at the party, including Kanye West, Mos Def, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and The Roots along with The Central State University Marching Band. Lauryn Hill was also scheduled to perform at the party, but since Columbia Records refused to release her songs for use in the production, she decided instead to reunite The Fugees for the occasion. In addition, Chappelle performed comedy monologues and sketches in between the musical acts.

This is the first rip I've done so hopefully it will work well for all of you. I've had this DVD for a couple of years for sure now and every once in awhile I break it out and watch it. It's a really cool tour DVD featuring D-Styles, Ricci Rucker, Mike Boogie, Excess, Toadstyle, Daddy Kev and Fat Jack. The crew put together a series of refined scratch songs using a variety of elements that when put together create more of a song than most scratch crews are doing. With turntablism, there's always an element of freestyle involved but these patterns are much more on purpose than the average multi deck composition you're used to seeing. I am going to put together these tracks as mp3s as well but you really would have a hard time appreciating them without having seen them performed first. The rip I have done here is just the main movie and it is a bit more than an hour in length. If you haven't seen this yet then you definitely will want to check it out. It is very much similar to stuff you may have heard from Gunkhole (one of D-Styles other projects). This is the first of a bunch of exclusive and hard to find sets from DVDs I have collected over the years. Enjoy this work of art in the mean time!!!

Finally back again with some new content. Things have been pretty hectic and I've fallen behind a bit so I thought I should treat the patient visitors of my blog with an excellent 2 hour documentary DVD. Everyone should be familiar with A-Trak. He was the kid that took turntablism by storm. The youngest winner ever of the DMCs and multiple time champion when including ITF and Vestax championships. He was also invited to Best of the Best event which featured DJ Noise, Cash Money, Cut Master Swift and Q-Bert. The DVD takes a tongue in cheek look at A-Trak's life as he came up through the world of turntablism and has now a firm place in the music industry overall. I'm not too excited about the Kanye West angle but the way I see it Kanye needed some way to convince hip-hop aficionados to come to his live shows.

Anyway, you get to see a lot of great footage, some now historic footage of battles, practice sessions and more. Sit back and join A-Trak in his living room as he narrates his turntablist life story. The casual evening robe is of course--optional. However, sunglasses are clearly a must. Enjoy!!!

This amazing DVD features two live sets. The first is Ned Hoddings (Toadstyle, Excess, Ricci Rucker, Mike Boogie). They perform some stuff like you have seen on the Bastard Language Tour DVD I posted before. Very cool, kind of more sophisticated turntablism if you will. The second set is the the D-Styles sextet (D-Styles, Shortkut, Melo-D, Babu, Rhettmatic and J.Rocc). They perform tracks from D-Styles Phantazmagorea LP live! Very cool stuff as well. I've also included the clip with the practice sessions. In total the two clips run about 80 minutes. A great set you don't want to miss if you're big into turntablism. Enjoy!!!

DJ Krush, was born in 1962 in Tokyo. After watching the film "Wild Style" in the early 80s, he was inspired, bought some turntables, and started to learn the art of turntablism. In 1987, along with DJs like DJ Muro, he formed the Krush Posse, which made numerous appearances as a group in late 1992 and gained him recognition by becoming the first DJ in Japan to perform with live musicians.

He released his first album "Krush", which stated his presence in the scene, and he has since released eight more. He has had recording contracts with Chance Records, Ninety Nine Records, Mo-Wax (he was the first Japanese artist to join), Apollo and Sony / Columbia. He works internationally as a producer, re-mixer, DJ and recording artist, bringing the unique flavour of Japanese hip hop to the world.

The History of DJ Krush DVD 'Ko-no-Michi' offers an epic recounting of the career of Japanese turntabalist, from his landmark first album Meiso to his 2006 world tour. Covering a number of Krush's albums in chronological order, his first DVD combines studio footage, live performances and interviews where Krush discusses his life, working with others and how he has reached the point where he is today. The album Tashan Dorsett offers up a gritty Bronx reality show, starring Tashan as the antihero.

“Tashan Dorsett is the reality person from New York City with an image of being real and regular, dealing with daily life situations,” Keith says. “The essence of urban living to it’s all time fullest, block after block, the brick buildings, the hot sun, areas and struggles of the ghetto I myself walked and experienced. You can’t live it through television, you have to walk out and touch it like I’ve done for years. To all the areas that many people will not visit, I will constantly.”

DJ Junkaz Lou, who has worked extensively with Keith in the past, handles all of the production on Tashan Dorsett.

WU-TANG CLAN - The Story Of The Wu-Tang Clan (Documentary) [2008]

In his opening narration, director Gerald Barclay reveals that he grew up with members of the Wu-Tang Clan. That makes his profile a first-person feature, even if he doesn't turn the camera on himself. As a video producer, Barclay contributed to the hip-hop collective's early success, so he isn't exactly a disinterested observer, which gives him access, but can also result in a limited perspective. Fortunately, he adds enough outside voices to stave off accusations of bias. To set the scene, Barclay takes a brief tour of Staten Island ("Shaolin" in Wu speak) and the martial arts movies that inspired the crew’s ideology. Founded in 1991, Wu-Tang formed around Ghostface Killah, Masta Killa, Method Man, Raekwon the Chef, RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and OI' Dirty Bastard. As actor/rapper RZA explains, Wu-Tang stands for Wise Universal Truth Allah Now God... though he's open to other interpretations. As writer Margeaux Watson observes, "It is a typical 'Behind the Music' story," and Barclay dutifully tracks their rise, fall, and rebirth by speaking with friends, business associates, disc jockeys, and journalist-turned-A&R rep Bonz Malone, who admits he didn't get them at first. Sadly, the darkest moments revolve around ODB, who went from substance abuse to assault charges to incarceration, and passed away in 2004. Special features include Barclay's "Protect Ya Neck" video and extended interviews with Raekwon and RZA, who relates Wu’s solo-career master plan. In addition, the filmmaker discusses the making of the documentary, while ODB's widow, Iceline Jones, remembers her late husband. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
